Their point isn't to 100% automate your ranch (although with that in mind i personally think drones do a bit too much. ago funny enough, i have dervish / quantum in the cave. I don't see how the lack of auto watering changes much of anything given how little work there is to begin with with drones. Since 1.4.0 you also get advanced drones that makes it even less work.
You can set drones close enough together to hit 2 with 1 glob (and it acts as hitting both seperately) halving your actual work needed. As it stands now a drone can manage quantums even with catch up (presuming catch up doesn't bug out like its known to do at times) and all you technically have to do is water the drones. but i have to say if you have to constantly panic that they would run out in less than 24 hours (ingame) when 1 glob of water lasts for 28 ingame hours, you either don't realize the life span of a watered drone, or have some serious paranoia.
